So we brought Rosebud to her first SCA event on Saturday. She seemed to enjoy wiggling on a blanket in the grass while we got to chat with our friends. Great fun was had by all.
The garden is starting to really get going. DH's grass is growing under its' cover of hay, my herb garden isn't wilting and my little bit of a veggy garden isn't dying either. I still have some flowers I got off of my mom the Damselfly that need to go in the front yard, but other than that I'm pretty proud of myself! Last year the poor garden was left to go wild because I had issues bending over while pregnant to deal with the weeds and DH is terrified the spiders might get him... so hopefully this year will be better.
I'm still working on Summer Queen. I expect this to take a while. I'm over half finished, however it's mostly fiddly bits left (you know, 3 stitches here, 8 stitches there...)
I'll try to post some pictures later.

A trip to Grandma's and Back
Well, you haven't heard from me for a bit because Lil Rosebud and I took a trip over to the island so she could have time with her Grandma and Grandpa.
As you can tell, we had a good time...
I think the most fun part of our trip is when her Grandma decided she was going to try out some of those "professional" style pictures of the naked baby in a tutu with a bow on her head. So Grandma went out and bought some tuille, and made Rosebud a tutu. Which Rosebud destroyed in very short order of Grandma putting it on her. So Grandma sewed the tutu back together again... which Rosebud decided would be great to pull up over her face and toss it in every which way and refused to smile for the camera. LOL that's my girl! I'll see if I can get a copy of one of those tutu pictures for your perusal.
I'm still working dutifully on my cross stitch project... which is around half done. Whee!

Oops It's been a while
Ok, I admit it. I'm not good at keeping up with a blog. Between Caelin and staying sane it takes up all my time!
I've been spending a lot of my free time working on a cross-stitch pattern I've been working on for the last 4 months. It's one of a set of 4 from Mirabilia Designs called Summer Queen. Over the past 12 years or so I've finished Winter Queen and Autumn Queen, and there's still Spring Queen to go. However, Summer Queen has been taking me less time to complete than the other two. OK, maybe it's because it didn't end up in the UFO pile (yet). However, my attention on it isn't flagging at all. I can do it and watch TV at the same time, and it's quiet to do while her nibs is taking a nap.
Here's a picture of Winter and Autumn Queen from Mirabilia's website.

and the one I'm currently working on, Summer Queen: http://www.mirabilia.com/images/md22.jpg
I find them fascinating because there's beads and sometimes special threads etc. It's like needle paint-by-number. This is the one handcraft I do that my mom doesn't do and has no interest in doing and that's fine by me. It appeals to my Virgo-ness of order (for the few things I want order in) and makes a pretty picture in the end. And I know it's silly but it's kinda nice to have a craft that's kind of my own. Don't get me wrong, it's great to have a lot in common with your mother and learn off of her and get help when you need it. But sometimes it's nice to be different. Even if it's something that she's just not interested in.
My husband has asked me to embroider a fire screen for our fireplace, so I'm not quite sure whether I'm going to do that next or Spring Queen and get the set done. First things first tho, I need to finish Summer Queen!
It will also be a challenge as I'm thinking of doing it in Crewel work which is a bit more of a free form style of embroidery than I'm used to. I might also have to chat with my dad about making a wooden frame for it for me too. (easier to make it to fit the frame than to make a frame to fit it.

Anniversaries
Well, today is my DH and I's 4th anniversary. Unfortunately he's working tonight, but we celebrated yesterday by going out to dinner at a steakhouse in White Rock called Onyx. The ambience was nice, the food was great, the service was good, my one and only complaint: The price! Way more expensive than what I expected for what we got to eat. But I will endeavour not to complain too loudly, as it was really nice to have a date-night out with a nice tasty dinner with a gorgeous man who brought me pretty dead flowers.
See? Aren't they pretty? I put them in a nice vase I had and they barely fit. Our friend Sharon took care of the Munchkin while we were out having fun, so good times were had by all.

A New Beginning
Greetings Readers! (or one can hope that someone other than me is reading this)
I decided to start a blog as so many things have been going on now that I have a little one, and I've been having fun trying to do my crafts AND take care of an almost 5-month old. Luckily, I can most likely do my blogging when she's napping.
So I took my blog name from a book that we read her at bedtime called "The Napping House". Unfortunately with my twisted sense of humour, "The Napping House" writing style has been reproduced to my great amusement to apply to other things in Rosebud's life (a name Granny has bestowed upon my little offspring). The basic gist of "The Napping House" is along the lines of: "There is a house, a Napping House, where everyone is sleeping, and in that house there is a bed, a cozy bed in a napping house where everyone is sleeping" and it keeps adding things onto the list of things on top of the last thing in the napping house, etc etc.
So my latest one has been, "There is a couch, a comfy couch, where every Rosebud eats. And on that couch, there is a pillow, a cozy pillow on the comfy couch where every Rosebud eats. And on that pillow there is a Rosebud, a hungry Rosebud on the cozy pillow on the comfy couch where every Rosebud eats. And on that Rosebud there is a mouth, a sucking mouth on the hungry Rosebud on the cozy pillow on the comfy couch where every Rosebud eats. And in that mouth there is a bottle, a feeding bottle in the sucking mouth on the hungry Rosebud on the cozy pillow on the comfy couch where every Rosebud eats. And in that bottle there is some mummy milk, some nummy mummy milk in the feeding bottle in the sucking mouth on the hungry Rosebud on the cozy pillow on the comfy couch where every Rosebud eats."
You can see where it gets kind of silly after a while.
Anyway, to talk about my Rosebud, she has stopped being distressed by being on her tummy and is starting to enjoy it, as long as her muscles are up to it. And we swear she almost crawled. Ok, maybe we're rushing our thoughts, but she got up on her hands and got her little knees under her bum which was up in the air and kinda wiggled forward a bit. That's crawling, right?
